Movie / Pre-Vegas / Radio
Just got back from "The Royal Tenenbaums." Real good. Real awkward, good props, good font(s), muted colors and uncomfortable dialogue. Everyone enjoyed it. Rose gave it a "6.5." I'd give it more like a "7.5." Although a little slow at times, the subtle things were the most interesting. The movie gives the Futura font a good name.
The work week came to an end. Lots of action. Presschecks, highway miles and haunting nightmares involving mis-registration and dot gain. Everything seems to be on schedule. Phew. Special thanks to John Millman from Continental Litho for the patience and help.
I leave for Vegas on Sunday. Real excited to see all the industry fuckers.
I've been listening to the Art Bell radio show (KFI 640am, Los Angeles) during the wee hours. "Campfire Tales" of sorts, of the paranormal genre. Topics like Mothmen, Sasquatch, Cattle Mutilations and UFO sightings keeps me entertained. I may be hooked. As a Junior Sasqualogist, I take to these matters with a certain curiosity. Sure, I'm a cynic, but I'm fascinated by this sort of stuff. I guess I like the way Bell handles the calls. He takes them seriously, all of them, as if every account was true, and accepted as common knowledge.
Goodnight, we are going to sleep in tomorrow.

Veg-ass, Soon.
Getting excited for the Vegas bumrush. Things are coming to a head as departure time nears.
Remember to wear comfortable shoes in Vegas. You walk a bunch.

A Good Saturday Morning
One of the better Saturday mornings of our time out here:
Old town, downtown Orange. Antique shop after Antique shop; never-ending caverns of treasures. Absolutely worth a weekend afternoon. Rose set the deal up, and he delivered the goods. I'll be going back, you can bet yer ass on it. Maybe solo or maybe with Rose, each on our own program, enjoying whatever pace we hold. That strip is serious, there is no fucking around with "group awareness" technicalities. One man for himself. Melissa, Michaylira, Herb and mandy joined us for the expedition. Fun was had by all.

Relief
I took the day off today. The big project was handed off yesterday.
Slept until 1pm.

Time Flies
Another week gone by. Kickin' ass trying to get all the projects off to the printerman. Long hours and late nights in front of the Cinema Display. Good real estate. No sweat. Fun project in the works for the tradeshow in Vegas.
Melissa had a mellow weekend, commanding the middle cushion of our weatherted couch.
Ryno and Kaja flew back to Minneapolis on Thursday. It was good to see that fucker. We had fun with 'em. Kaja equalizes him. She keeps her cool and handles him well. Tough girl, considering his cold, hard ways. Ryno collected some misties here and there and got to see the better parts of Orange County during his stay. I don't think he'll be moving here anytime soon, as he thinks the place is a dump. I share the same sentiment. See you back in the cities, my comrade.
Goodnight from the left coast.

Real Thankful
Glad to have the equipment up and running at the mag office. Thanks to the IT techs.
Vegas Is Behind Us
Back from the road, again.
Ryno and Kaia from Minneapolis are in town for a week vacationing. We decided to head out to Vegas for the night Saturday morning. 300 miles north by northeast and you are on the strip living large. We cruised up, smooth sailing as always thanks to Big S, and secured a room at the Tropicana. King-size bed for 50 clams. 25 clams per couple. No sweat. In Vegas you gotta have ample shelter locked down. The spontaneity of the theme park atmosphere calls for having a secure place to make yer way back to once you've "gambled/drank/whatevered" yer fill.
It was an eventful night. We chowed, gambled a bit, gawked, hiked and made our way back to our beds. Ryno and Kaia, possibly pondering a drive-thru wedding, stayed out a bit later. Good for them Fun place to be a young couple.
The Oregon trip kicked our ass. We still haven't been able to charge up the batteries after that hellride. Then to head back on the road to Vegas? Whoa, brutal. We just need some time to chill, get some sleep and work our jobs real hard. These highways take their toll on you. One has to be in the right frame of mind. To enjoy the road you need an open-ended timeframe. That's the best. This timed, exacted, stressed traveling is for the birds.
Farrar is playing down in these parts in a month. Real excited to see that drab bastard. He's amazing, really. Not too much the showman, and that's what makes him worth every penny.
I've got some fun projects on the horizon with the mag. Gearing up for Vegas in a month. Yikes.

A New Year... Man, Portland Was Good
Back from the road. We kicked the 5's ass up and down the West Coast.
Real tired of being in that rig with Melissa. We need a little break from each other. Good gal, love her and all, but damn, we need some space! 1000 miles up, 1000 miles down. Treacherous passes, black ice, sasquatches, burbs, etc. A long haul to go see my good people in the Oregon. Thanks to Jay+Heather, Yamada, Pam+Porchrooster, Fink+Jenn, Bartel NEMO, Graves NEMO, Hillary+Runway Benji, Movie Critic Cooley, BrOwen+Amber, Portermouth+Ange, Gretch+Hotz and Maurice+Sherman for good times, hospitality, couches, licks, handshakes and hi-fives.
Ryno and Sweetheart are flying in tomorrow night. California will never be the same.
